The Portrait, maybe the oldest game in the book, has recently gotten me very excited. My art teacher once said, (quoting his teacher) about the artmaking process, that, “There are no rules, only tools”. Well, how I think about the photo portrait process is that the rules are the tools! 

It is a question of what is the subject giving, their context, and can I recognize that in real time and present it simply. Then, will the photo hold nuance or will it be some strange projection? And is that projection coming from me or the subject? Either way, the photo will always answer a question but that answer doesn't make it true.
